15-minute Public Access Computers

15min PAC

Two 15-minute public access PC’s available for activities such as checking e-mail, printing, or quick Internet browsing.  Software available is the same as the standard public access computers without the 3D applications MakerBot Desktop and Blender.

Youth PC’s


Located on the 2nd floor in our Youth Services department, we offer 9 PC’s available to youth, 17 and under, with same software installed as the standard public access computers.  Software installed includes the following:

   * Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
   * Norton AntiVirus
   * MakerBot Desktop (3D printing)
   * Blender (3D modeling)
   * GIMP (graphics)
   * Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome
   * VLC (video/audio playback)

Stations 1-6 are available for general use; stations 7-9 are geared more specifically to those needing to complete homework assignments or other projects.  Station #8 has two additional software titles installed:

   * Sony Vegas Pro (video/audio editing)
   * Microsoft Visio Standard (diagramming)
Kerbal Space program is installed on machines 1, 3 & 6.

Wireless (Wi-Fi) Access


Our Cisco-Meraki public access wireless system offers fast Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the library. The system is compatible with most wireless devices that use WPA2 wireless encryption.  Visit our circulation or reference desks for more details.

B&W/Color Copying & printing

Ricoh Copier

Our Ricoh Aficio C2051 copier is available for all your copying needs:

   * 10 cents per page for black and white copies and prints

   * 40 cents per page for color copies and prints

One Button Studio
A simplified video recording studio as developed at Penn State.  Call 727-3150 to reserve the studio to work on your project.  Equipment includes a video camera, green screen, and an iMac to edit your work.  Bring a thumb drive to record your video. Video recordings become large files quickly so high capacity drives are recommended.

BookScan Station
a.k.a Super-cool machine!


Our easy-to-use, self-service scanning solution offers scanning to e-mail, fax, USB, and Google Docs options.  BookScan Station is also integrated with OCR capabilities for converting text into readable common formats such as Microsoft Word and PDF. 

Self-Check Kiosks


Want to check out your own items? No problem!  Our Envisionware self-check kiosk is at your service.  A barcode scanner reads the library barcode associated with the item and the attached receipt printer produces the return slip. Simple, convenient, and easy to use!

Digital Microfilm ScannerST-ViewScan-II

Attached to public access computer #1, the ST ViewScan II digital microfilm scanner allows users to easily load and browse microfilm to find information fast!  Images are loaded into the ViewScan software and can be edited, improved, cleaned up, or manipulated in multiple ways.  Once the image is identified it can be easily captured and shared. These options include the familiar print mode, saving to a USB flash drive, e-mail, Google Drive, and Dropbox.  Regardless of the original film capture magnification, ST ViewScan II can easily capture the image.

VHS-to-DVD transfer station

Toshiba DVR620

VHS videotapes degrade over time and there’s little to stop it.  Enter the Toshiba DVR620 DVD Recorder.  This transfer unit will easily make digital copies of your personal VHS recordings.  Bring in a blank, recordable DVD disc and your VHS tape, follow the steps, and create a digital copy ready for playback in any standard DVD player. Checkout the remote for this equipment at the front desk.

3D Printing


We are proud to offer 3D printing using the MakerBot Replicator 5thGeneration Desktop 3D printer.  3D printing has never been easier. Create or download a 3D model in either STL or OBJ format and use the MakerBot Desktop software, which is installed on our public computers, to create a compatible .makerbot file on your USB flash drive.  Cost for printing is $1 every 30 minutes, rounded-up.   Visit our homepage to see the currently loaded color!

Improve your 3D modeling skills with our new MakerBot Digitizer.  No previous design, modeling, or CAD experience needed!  In 9-12 minutes, take a real-world object that meets the digitizer requirements and generate a standard 3D model for modifying, improving, sharing, and ultimately 3D printing. 

Kids’ Computers


The Kids’ Education Station is the newest line of educational computing workstations. It is a low-footprint design; everything is built directly into the 22" multi-touch screen. Besides being a powerful computer, the Education Station is an advanced configuration of operating system and software packages that secure the computer to make it simple, enjoyable and safe for children to use. Each software package contains 50+ award-winning educational software packages, games and art programs.  We offer two of these stations located in the 2nd floor Youth Services department.

Auditorium Services


Having a meeting or event and need room to accommodate?  At UCPL, our auditorium can host up to 100 people.  The room is equiped with a ceiling-mounted Hi-def projector, a Blu-ray player, microphones and wi-fi. Contact us for more information on reserving the auditorium for your next event.

These portable and highly versatile Chromebooks can be checked out and used on our wireless network anywhere in the library.  Using Google’s patented operating system, sign on with your own Gmail account or the guest account and surf the Internet via the integrated Google Chrome browser. Checkout available with an adult library card and signed form.  Sorry, no guest passes.

Sony Handycam HDR-CX240 digital video cameras

In partnership with CALOP, we now offer 6 Sony Handycam video cameras for checkout.  These cameras come equipped with 32 GB micro SD cards and feature full HD recording capability.  Perfect for recording events and activities. Each camera is contained in an easy-carry case along with charger, cabling, and instruction guide.  When you finish recording, hook up the camera to one of our video editing PC’s and put those finishing touches on your masterpiece. GoPro Hero 4 Session Camera Kit

HERO4 Session packs the power of GoPro into GoPro's smallest, lightest, most convenient camera yet. Its rugged, waterproof design eliminates the need for a separate housing, while a single button powers on the camera and starts recording automatically. With 1080p60 video and 8MP photos, HERO4 Session delivers the professional image quality that has made GoPro famous.  Our kit contains the camera, micro SD card, micro SD card adapter, 3 mounts, cables, and a case.

Check out a tripod to use with one of our cameras or your own.  We have three for lending and features include,
2 Adjustable Locking Leg Sections, rubber feet, maximum operating Height: 54.5," minimum operating height: 26.75," integrated bubble level, quick release plate dimensions: 3.5″ x 2.35″ and a heavy duty travel bag.
Video Editing

Use Final Cut Pro, Sony Vegas, iMovie, or Windows Movie Maker to edit your masterpiece.  Sony Vegas is installed on public computers 1, 9, 10 and YS 8.  Windows Movie Maker is all PCs in Youth Services. iMovie and Final Cut Pro is installed on the iMacs (public computers 13 & 14).
