Lift Every Voice: Live Poetry Reading from UrbArts

Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. online
Join us for a live online poetry reading featuring four local poets from UrbArts reading their own works, as well as selections from the new Library of America anthology African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song. The poets will also offer their thoughts on the African American freedom struggle and the role poetry has played in their personal experiences with that struggle. Email for information on attending the Zoom program.

This program is part of Lift Every Voice: Why African American Poetry Matters, a national public humanities program dedicated to enhancing appreciation of the extraordinary range and richness of the 250-year-long African American poetic tradition.

Lift Every Voice is an initiative presented by Library of America in partnership with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library, the Academy of American Poets, Cave Canem Foundation, Center for African American Poetry and Poetics, The National Book Foundation, The Poetry Foundation, Poetry Society of America, and Poets House. This program has been made possible with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and Emerson Collective.
